How to Use the Roll-N-Roll™ Putter and the Roll-N-Roll™ Putter II
Portal - Training How To
The Roll-N-RollTM Putter II and the Roll-N-RollTM putter are specifically designed to help you learn how to keep a smooth, straight and level plane while you are putting. A level plane serves as a foundation for a consistent, accurate and effective putting stroke. It allows you to better control the starting line of your putts and enhances your ability to judge distance, both critical aspects of successful putting.
We have developed the Roll-N-RollTM putters with a rolling golf ball that alerts you if the putter is being raised too early.
1. If you raise your putter too early, the ball will stop rolling
2. With a smooth consistent putting motion, the ball will roll continuously through your back and forth putting motion
3. The club only lifts at the very end after contact and follow-thru
Another key factor to consistent putting is learning to put with your chest. A lot of golfers use their arms or hips when they put. To prevent the use of your arms, please follow:
1. Begin by lightly touching your sides with the part of your arm just above your elbow
2. Make sure your wrists and arms do not move independently from your body
3. This will only be achieved by using your chest/shoulders and keeping your head still
4. Most importantly, no rocking!
The Basics
To begin learning the Roll-N-RollTM putting skill, you will first want to develop a sense of feel for how the ball should be rolling
1. Start by positioning yourself as if you are about to putt
2. Use your left hand on the grip only
3. Roll the putter back and forth several times
4. Follow the line straight back and forth
5. Next, switch hands and repeat the same routine
You should be rolling the putter back and forth with your chest/shoulders only and remember to keep your head still. The ball should be in a constant state of motion. The feeling of the back and forth should be the same for both hands.
Your Grip
Using both hands on the grip, roll the putter back and forth several times, making sure you aren’t lifting up and the ball is continuously rolling. Your grip pressure also has an impact. If your grip is too tight, the putt will have a tendency to go left of the target. If your grip is too loose, the tendency is to go right of the target. Once you begin putting balls, it should be only a few putts before you understand the correct grip pressure to have your putt roll straight.
Once you feel comfortable with your grip pressure and your ability to putt using your chest/shoulders only, you will want to practice a few times putting a ball.
1. Make sure you find the impact zone (where the putter will actually strike the ball) and that it is square to the ball
2. This will be the position you want the putter in at the moment of impact on the down swing
3. Now putt a few balls until your grip pressure feels right and the putt is rolling in a straight line towards the hole
4. If your wrists break or head moves, the ball will not roll straight. You should feel a nice consistent stroke on every putt.
5. If you are using the Roll-N-Roll Putter II you will want to insert the ball in the hole closest to the putter face for putts 8 feet and shorter, and the back hole for putts over 8 feet.
